The 2007 GLAAD Media Awards were held in New York for the East Coast celebration of the group’s 18th annual awards, honoring the positive portrayal of gay and lesbian issues in the media.
Rosie O’Donnell won the award for Outstanding Documentary for All Aboard! Rosie’s Family Cruise. The HBO special chronicled the launch of her family-oriented cruise line for gay and lesbian parents. During her acceptance speech, O’Donnell paid tribute to fellow nominee and tennis champion Billie Jean King saying, “If it hadn’t been for Billie Jean King, there wouldn’t have been a gay movement.”
